Solberg er en mangefasettert kunstner som benytter seg av mange ulike medier i sitt arbeid: musikk, lyd, performance, fotografi, poesi, spoken word, video, keramikk og skulptur. Hun blander elementer fra samisk og nordlig kultur og subkultur og henter materiale fra mennesker og steder. Alt dette lar hun komme til uttrykk i ulike karakterer eller personifiseringer med ulike egenskaper, som blant annet den synske, heksen, den vise og narren.
Kunsten er like mye uuttalt som burlesk, like mye vâr som ekspressiv, like mye sarkastisk som ekstatisk, like direkte som den er unnvikende og utforsker en verden av utfordringer, fremmedhet, vold, melankoli, ensomhet og begjær. Noen ganger er den selvbiografisk og sterkt forbundet med omgivelsene, andre ganger av mer symbolistisk og rituell karakter.
Marita har tatt sangundervisning siden hun var syv år, hun har utforsket soul, opera, pop, rock og jazz.
MARITA ISOBEL SOLBERG is a musician and visual artist. Focusing on music/sound, performance art and installation. A multifaced artist that experiments and engages many different media in her work such as sound/music, performance, photography, poetry, spoken words, video, clay/ceramics and sculpture.
Interweaving elements from Sámi and Northern culture and subculture and from relations to people and places, she embodies personas or charachters of varied but particular properties; The seer, the witch, the sage or the jester. Equally understated and burlesque, minimal and expressive, sarcastic and blissfull, blunt and evasive, the works explore a world of challenge, strangeness, violence, melancholy, loneliness and desire where narrative passages or content. At times autobiographical, strongly connected to the surroundings, she mixes with more symbolic and ritual elements.
Marita has had singing lessons since the age of 7, she has ventured through soul, opera, pop, rock and jazz. Aiming to work with artists and musicians that know that everything is possible.
She finished her Masters degree in 2007 at the National Academy of The Arts in Oslo and has since then been in residency stays at Puskinskayain in St. Petersburg, Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan, The Watermill Center in New York (Robert Wilson), The Performance Studio in London (David Thorp) and participated in several art and music-related stays in USA (Rosendale, New York City, Miami), Italy (Sicily, Venice), Russia (Arkhangelsk, St. Petersburgh), Japan (Tokyo), Norway, UK (London, Newcastle, Liverpool), Spain (Majorca, Barcelona) and in France (Avignon, Paris, Charleville).
SPRING 2015 she lived in New York City, hosted by Jill McDermid & Erik Hokanson which run Grace Exhibition Space, GAPAF, Rosekill Festival for International Performance Art and Linda Mary Montanas Art & Life Institute. Performing with Christo Stangness at The Lodge Gallery, The Bowery Poetry Club and Williamsburg Music Center. Closely working with names as Hector Canonge, Jacob Cohen, Geraldo Mercado, Manuel Vason and Øystein Elle.
In May 2015 she was performing at Venice Agendas during the pre-opening of The Venice Biennale 2015 and performing at The Globe Gallery in Newcastle, traveling with “One Piece of a Shared Space” (Anna Einarsson & Ulle Pirttijärvi Lansmän) to Helsinki and Stockholm in november 2015.
Performing at X-Contemporary and The Satellite Show at Art Basel in Miami 2015. Touring USA with Non Grata (Estonia), from Miami via Savannah and Pittsbourgh to New York. Staying in NEW YORK again for december and january 2016.

Solberg was the chairman of SDS (2013-2015) and RadArt (2012-2013),
She was one of the members of the Artistic Council in SDS / SDG. (2010-2012).
