North Norwegian Art Centre will award the Miscellaneous Grant for artists in Northern Norway from 2025, funded by delegated resources from the Relief Fund for Visual Artists (BKH).
The Miscellaneous Grant is intended to support the artistic practice of professional artists based in the region.
Four applicants will receive funding from BKH’s delegated allocations in 2025:
- Åsne Kummeneje Mellem receives NOK 50,000 for the further development of the project OJITTAAT – Å grave en bekk. The project explores Kven cultural heritage using materials from the less accessible Kven Archive at Tromsø Museum, combining archival research with artistic processing and local dialogue in Finnmark. The work addresses Kven craftsmanship, language, and identity, aiming to activate historical knowledge through contemporary art. The project is developed in collaboration with Vadsø Museum and the Kven Institute, and includes fieldwork, material investigations, and conversations with local residents.
- Dan Mariner receives NOK 50,000 for the development of the video installation First Strike City, which will be exhibited at the Nordland Museum in Bodø in summer 2025. The work explores themes of geopolitics, hybrid warfare, and national preparedness, combining video, sound, and spatial installation. The installation is part of a larger solo exhibition and marks an artistic shift where Mariner explores new technologies and forms of expression. The project also includes professional guidance and technical upgrades, aiming to enhance the artist’s visibility both regionally and internationally.
- Ingeborg Annie Lindahl receives NOK 50,000 for the solo exhibition Lengsel etter den andre at Galleri Nord-Norge in Harstad in spring 2026. The exhibition is an interdisciplinary collaboration with poet Marte Huke and sound artist Trond Lossius, combining large-scale chalk drawings, poetry, sound, and performance. The project investigates the relationship between drawing, language, and sound – and how these influence our understanding of place, time, and human experience. The exhibition consists of three spatial installations and also involves children from the local culture school in a performative opening.
- Niels Nielsen and the collective Subsonisk Samband receive NOK 50,000 for the construction of a mobile, artistic sound system for use in sound art projects in Northern Norway. The system will serve both as a dissemination platform and a social meeting place, developed in collaboration with local actors and technicians. The goal is to strengthen the regional sound art field and provide artists in Northern Norway with access to professional sound dissemination and new audience formats.
The artistic jury for the Miscellaneous Grant for artists in Northern Norway 2025 consisted of:
Tanya Busse from The Association of North Norwegian Visual Artists (NNBK), Solveig Ovanger from Norwegian Craftsmen of Northern Norway (NKNN), and Janna Thöle-Juul from North Norwegian Art Centre.
The funds for the grant are delegated from the Relief Fund for Visual Artists (BKH).
